Last week, I stepped outside to sit on my porch because we were experiencing some of the best Spring weather since the season started. I do have a love hate relationship with Spring because of my allergies and I’m sure many of you have the same problem, however, it was just too nice not to go outside and enjoy it.
That’s when I noticed a bee emerged from a little crack on the floor.
Cross Pollinating

Instinctively I jumped because I wasn’t planning on getting stung, and I ran inside to get a throw blanket that I keep on my couch, so I could use it to shooooh away the bee.
It then went to buzz around some perennials in my neighbor’s yard, but it surely didn’t stay there for too long. I stopped trying to keep track of it at that point. As long as it wasn’t near me all was good with the world.
I’m sure it was busy doing it’s cross-pollinating.
And I thought to myself, wouldn’t it be nice to take a lesson from a bee.
They move from flower to flower and help other plants grow and also create more diversity. As a solo professional, I figured that that’s exactly what I need to be doing.
Here’s what I mean:
Too often, we only talk to the people in our industry. Those who are doing exactly what we’re doing. We talk the same way, we market the same way, we’re offering the same packages, and so on and so forth. There’s nothing wrong with staying in our lane, but if we’re like that for too long, we’re hindering ourselves from growing.
Growth can also come from “cross-pollinating”. When we talk to people from outside our usual circle we can share and borrow ideas, and explore what others are doing, especially those who are doing it well. I like to do this when I’m tapped out of inspiration or hit a roadblock when it comes to ideas.
The Bottom Line:
When we feel like we need to push harder in our business; sometimes it’s not that. We have the wrong idea. What we need to do is wander wider, like the bee. Be a little bit more curious about what else and who else is out there that can cross-pollinate new ideas and new ways of seeing.
A Better Plan for Solo Professionals
I’ve created a 2025 Content Calendar tailored specifically for solo professionals like you. Those who don’t have the hours to spend figuring out what to post, but still want to show up online in a meaningful way.
What’s Inside?
- 3 weekly post ideas to keep your content consistent and engaging.
- A mix of educational, promotional, and fun prompts to help you connect with your audience.
- Monthly themes to keep you organized and aligned with your goals.
With this calendar, you’ll stop rolling the dice and guessing what works. Stop leaving your success up to chance. When we know better, we do better.
Chuckle of the day! 😂
I asked a bee how he stays productive. He said, “Simple. I always stick to my buzzness plan.”
