The Shower Curtain, Issue #31

Would it surprise you if I told you my best ideas come to me in the shower? It’s my creative sanctuary where I feel most inspired and where I sound the most like Susan Boyle from Britain’s Got Talent. Recently, while taking a hot shower, I felt a cold, damp sensation. The shower curtain touched my skin and clung to me, instantly pulling me out of my creative flow.

The most unpleasant feeling ever!

So, before we get into today’s newsletter, I want to know if I’m the only person who gets weirded out by the feeling of the cold shower curtain. I’m sure this is a thing, right?

Anyways, and that’s when it hit me!  This is the exact feeling I get when I walk into a networking group, meeting or function where there is a lack of enthusiasm, or having a conversation with someone who is just not motivated, burnt out or stuck in a rut. I feel like it’s going to cling to me, and I prefer to stay away from environments that feel stagnant, uncomfortable, or unwelcoming.

The reason for this is because it stifles my progress. The steam from the hot shower helps me to brew up some of the best ideas, but as soon as I feel that cold shower curtain, my ideas get sucked into the dampness and then I lose focus. Well, surprisingly this also happens in the workplace and the people we choose to surround ourselves with.

1. Remove the Shower Curtain

Not the one in your bathroom, but figuratively speaking. You want to change your environment and find one that promotes fresh ideas, creativity and forward momentum.

2. Engage with your Clients/Customers Regularly

If you take too long to engage with your clients, they might start to feel disconnected. There will be less communication and more of that “cold and damp” feeling. Clients are less likely to withdraw if you are focusing on maintaining a warm connection.

Just like the cold, damp touch of a shower curtain can interrupt your lightbulb moments, the same feeling can creep into your business or professional life when you’re surrounded by stagnation or disconnection.

The key is to recognize when something feels off and take steps to change it, whether that means engaging more frequently with clients, finding fresh perspectives, or simply stepping into spaces that inspire and energize you.

    Chuckle of the day! 😂
Why don’t shower curtains make good friends? Because they always leave you feeling a little cold and damp!
