My first ever drink was a Smirnoff Ice. We were on a college class trip, and it was the last night. Everyone went out partying, with first and second rounds being ordered. I ordered my one drink and watched as almost everyone around me finished theirs quickly and moved on to another.
That same Smirnoff sat in my hand the entire night.

I was never part of the Bottoms Up clique. I was not a drinker then, and honestly, I never became one. Quite frankly, I was impressed by those who could do it. They would still wake up the next day like nothing happened the night before. I was just never cut out for it. Over the years, I would have a drink socially here and there, but very rarely. And even then, I almost never finished it.
I got a lot of pressure from my peers. However, I knew that some things in life were absolutely okay not to finish. A drink was just one of those things I did not feel compelled to finish. The next day’s result was just not worth it to me.
But for us solo professionals, there is a category of things we often leave unfinished, like our business goals. This is usually the point when we mentally check out. We tell ourselves that it’s too late to make progress. We decide that we will just start fresh in January.
With only a week left, it’s definitely easier to just coast and promise ourselves that we will start next month. I try not to do that. Consistency does not care what month it is. Finishing does not need a new year to matter.
When I start something, seeing it through builds my confidence so I can conquer the next goal. Even if it is small. The idea of “Bottoms Up” is to force yourself to finish everything. In this case, I prefer to recognize what is worth finishing.
If there is something you started this year, and you would still love to complete it, the year is not over. Keep going. Finish it. Do not quit just because you feel like time is running out.
Final Thoughts
Bottoms Up. Let’s finish what we started. We still have time. We still have choice. And we are still capable of finishing strong.
Chuckle of the day! 😂
Bottoms up sounds bold until you realize commitment is involved.
