We don’t truly understand the statement “The little things matter” until we experience a hangnail. It is one of those annoyances that drives me absolutely insane. I’ve been meaning to take care of it for days. It wasn’t that huge, and it wasn’t bleeding, but it was enough to drive me up a wall because it catches on everything! My clothes, my hair, and my poor sanity.
Let’s just say that having a hangnail makes it really hard to focus on anything else. Does this sound familiar?
Well that small nagging issue is similar to those little issues that you’ve been meaning to fix in your business.

It’s one of those things that’s small and not urgent (at least that’s what we tell ourselves), and we keep putting it off until it really starts to become a distraction, and eventually slows us down, because it makes everything else harder than it needs to be.
As solo professionals, these show up in our businesses too. It could be something as simple as updating that LinkedIn Bio you’ve been meaning to get to, organizing your Tax paperwork, revamping your brand logo or reaching back out to your Leads. It’s always that “I’ll get to it later” excuse.
I find that when I do this it throws off my momentum because eventually all these “hangnails” do add up, and then I feel stuck and paralyzed because I have no idea how to move, or which direction to take. All because I let them pile up.
Running a solo business is challenging enough, so why do we allow these little snags to hold us back? There’s no I.T. department or marketing team. Everything falls on us. So what is that one task that you keep putting off? The sooner we can address these, the sooner we can get back to our normal routines.
The Bottom Line:
This doesn’t mean that we have to overhaul our entire business overnight. It just means that if we start taking care of the little things before they turn into bigger issues, we’ll have less of a pain to deal with.
