7 Things that Business Owners Need to Let Go Of, Issue #12

I find that my clients are always frustrated about the same problems – they’re drowning in their business operations, leaving no room for the important things. One of the things that I learned from my business coach about running a business is that you cannot cradle your business forever. You will have to learn to let go if you want to grow.

Continue reading to find out the seven things that business owners need to let go of in order to grow.

Here are 7 things that business owners need to let go of in 2024.

1. Burnout

Burning that midnight oil may have seem like a rebel move to pass your exams in high school or college, but let’s face it, that’s not sustainable! The truth is, long hours don’t make you a productive person or business owner, they just make you a zombie.

Your brain gets all fuzzy, and your decision-making skills go down the drain. So, let’s not do any more all-nighters and make it a habit to get enough sleep.

2. Thinking you do not need a mentor

I cannot express enough gratitude for the role of a mentor. My initial belief was that I could single-handedly manage my business. I managed to secure some clients, but the transformational shift came when I welcomed a business coach into my plan.

The guidance of my coach was invaluable, saving me countless hours of trying to navigate alone. Today, I’m filled with gratitude as I continue to work with coaches to advance different aspects of my life. This experience has taught me that no journey is meant to be walked alone, and for that, I am deeply thankful.

3. Lack of Time Management

Elon Musk and Beyonce have the same 24 hours as you and I do, yet they’ve achieved astounding success. Surely, they did not reach those level of achievements by lounging on the couch watching Dancing with the Stars. Let’s stop wasting time and start prioritizing those tasks that will help us to grow.

4. Sticky Note System

If you’re running your daily operations from sticky note processes and instructions then you might want to rethink that. When there is a lack of efficient systems and processes, relying on sticky notes for daily operations can lead to chaos.

It’s important to create standard operating procedures in order to have a seamless workflow. Consider investing in project management software like Teamwork, Monday, or Notion. Alternatively, organize your sticky notes digitally in One Note for improved efficiency.

5. Inability to delegate

Let go to grow! You need to relieve yourself of daily operational tasks so that you can focus on higher-level tasks. Remember, you’re trying to rid yourself of burnout too. You’re just one person. You cannot be everywhere at the same time. You’re not God.

6. Not Staying Current on Industry Trends

It’s important to stay updated on trends, and never stop learning. This is also a great way to stay competitive in your industry so that you can keep yourself in the loop about new softwares and technologies that can help your clients.

7. Resistance to Change

When it comes to growing your business, you need to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. If you are constantly inside your business being overwhelmed with the day-to-day tasks, it makes it difficult to look inside and see where your opportunities lie.

Identifying and addressing these challenges is important for your business to succeed. Work on your time management skills, start practicing delegating so that you can let go of tasks, and implement efficient systems that will create some order in your business processes.
